Founded in 1974 as the Manpower Demonstration Research Corporation, “MDRC” became the official name of the organization in 2003. MDRC's work focuses on the design of promising new interventions, evaluating existing programs using the highest research standards, and providing technical assistance to build better programs and deliver effective interventions at scale.  The intermediary brings together public and private funders to test new policy-relevant ideas, and communicate what is learned to policymakers and practitioners — with the goal of improving the lives of low-income individuals, families, and children.

MDRC designs and studies solutions for issues across the policy spectrum – in education from preschool to postsecondary, in workforce development, and on issues related to individuals and families who are disconnected from the worlds of work and education. Focus areas include:
