Formed on Feb 12, 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization focused on promoting social welfare, civil rights, and social justice efforts and initiatives for African Americans in the United States.

The NAACP collaborates through partnerships and chapters at national and local levels to promote:

  • health & well-being
  • public policy advocacy and litigation efforts
  • community engagement
  • inclusivity
  • economic mobility
  • civic engagement
  • environmental and climate justice
  • leadership development
  • education

The NAACP’s Education Innovation initiative is a program aimed at addressing disparities in education, particularly those affecting marginalized communities. This initiative seeks to advance educational equity and excellence by implementing strategies that foster academic success and empowerment for all learners, regardless of race, ethnicity, or socio-economic background.

The NAACP advocates for policies and practices that promote inclusive and equitable learning environments. This includes efforts to eliminate systemic barriers to education, such as unequal funding, discriminatory discipline policies, and inadequate resources in schools educating underserved populations. By advocating for policy changes at the local, state, and national levels, the NAACP aims to create a more just and equitable education system that benefits all learners.

Additionally, the NAACP Education Innovation prioritizes research and data-driven approaches to inform its advocacy efforts and programmatic initiatives. By collecting and analyzing data on educational outcomes, disparities, and best practices, the NAACP seeks to identify effective strategies for improving learner achievement and closing the achievement gap. This evidence-based approach allows the organization to tailor its interventions to the specific needs of each community and maximize impact.
