Founded in 1937, the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) is a nonprofit organization that serves as an advocate for state workforce agencies in all 50 states, District of Columbia (DC), and U.S. Territories. NASWA aims to enhance the effectiveness of state workforce systems and promote collaboration among state workforce agencies, federal agencies, and other stakeholders. The organization provides a platform for its members to exchange best practices, discuss policy issues, and address challenges facing the nation's workforce development system.

NASWA represents the interests of state workforce agencies, which are responsible for administering various federal and state workforce programs, including unemployment insurance, workforce development, and labor market information. The organization works closely with federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and the U.S. Department of Education to ensure alignment and coordination of workforce policies and programs at the state and federal levels. NASWA also collaborates with other organizations, advocacy groups, and stakeholders involved in workforce development to advocate for policies and initiatives that support the needs of job seekers, employers, and workers.

NASWA also aims to facilitate communication and information sharing among its members. The association hosts conferences, workshops, webinars, and other events where state workforce agency officials can network, learn about emerging trends and innovations, and share strategies for improving workforce services. NASWA also provides technical assistance, research, and resources to help state agencies enhance their operational efficiency, program effectiveness, and service delivery to job seekers and employers.
