Founded in 2020, the Trust over IP (ToIP) Foundation is a global organization established to define a new standard for digital trust. Its primary focus is to create a universal framework for trustworthy exchange and interaction in the digital environment. The foundation operates as a collaborative effort between industry leaders, governments, and nonprofit organizations, aiming to address the pressing need for a more secure and interoperable digital infrastructure.

The ToIP Foundation aims to develop a standardized set of specifications, guidelines, and governance frameworks that enable individuals, businesses, and governments to establish trust and security in their digital exchanges. This includes defining technical protocols, architectural components, and policy frameworks that promote interoperability and ensure privacy, security, and usability across digital ecosystems. Additionally, the foundation is focused on utilization of interoperable digital wallets and credential systems.

The ToIP Foundation encourages collaboration among industry leaders and digital trust experts through networking, working groups, and information sharing at events, workshops, and conferences. TOIP manages initiatives, such as the Trust over IP Stack, which is a layered architecture that provides a comprehensive framework for building trusted digital ecosystems. The stack comprises a set of interoperable components, including verifiable credentials, decentralized identifiers, and protocols, which enable secure and private interactions between parties.
