Overview

Temple University's Comprehensive Learner Record (CLR) seeks to tell a story that exemplifies each learner’s success, illuminates their interests, and fully reflects their cumulative Temple experience.

The official transcript focuses on courses and grades based on course registration; by contrast, the CLR is created from the learner's holistic record sourced from multiple systems: HandShake, Suitable, OwlConnect (Campus Labs), and others. The CLR uses visual elements to capture experiences that define skills and highlights non-academic experiences.

Background

The initiative addresses problems that higher education institutions face related to recordkeeping and learning verification:

  1. A lack of data or lack of access to data.
  2. Governance – lack of an internal process to develop a new internal learner record across a complex organization.
  3. Executive sponsoring – pursuing a project with executive-level support.
