Overview

Launched in 2012, the AARP Employer Pledge Program is a national initiative that encourages employers to publicly commit to valuing experienced workers and fostering age-inclusive workplaces. By signing the pledge, companies affirm their dedication to providing equal opportunities for all employees, regardless of age, and to recognizing the contributions of workers aged 50 and older.

Background

The Employer Pledge Program was created to enable employers to publicly demonstrate their commitment to valuing experienced workers and fostering age-diverse workplaces. The initiative is significant because it addresses age discrimination, helping organizations recognize and retain the expertise, institutional knowledge, and skills of employees aged 50 and older. By promoting age diversity, companies benefit from broader perspectives, enhanced problem-solving, and stronger decision-making within teams. Additionally, participation in the program bolsters employer reputation, expands access to a skilled labor pool, and supports the financial security of older workers, generating meaningful benefits for both organizations and society.
