Apprenti is a national nonprofit workforce organization that helps employers develop talent through Registered Apprenticeship. Created in 2015 through the Washington Technology Industry Association Workforce Institute, Apprenti launched its first registered apprenticeship cohort in 2016 and subsequently expanded its model nationally. In 2024, Apprenti began operating independently from the Washington Technology Industry Association.
Apprenti was initially developed to address shortages of skilled technology workers by creating pathways into technology careers for people who may not have traditional degrees, prior industry experience, or access to conventional hiring networks. Its model combines job-related instruction with paid, structured on-the-job learning. Apprenti works with employers to design and register apprenticeship programs, recruit and screen candidates, coordinate training, manage compliance and reporting, and support apprentices throughout the program.
Although Apprenti began primarily as a technology apprenticeship organization, its work has expanded into a broader range of occupations and industries. Areas of focus include:
Apprenti also works as a Registered Apprenticeship intermediary, helping employers establish and manage apprenticeship programs without having to build the administrative infrastructure themselves. Its current portfolio includes more than 16 pre-approved occupations registered with the U.S. Department of Labor.
One example of its expanding work is a partnership with the SHRM Foundation to advance the Human Resource Specialist Registered Apprenticeship Program, which supports employers in developing new human resources (HR) talent and upskilling existing workers.
