Founded in 2017, Black in AI (BAI) is a global nonprofit organization with a mission to increase the presence and influence of Black people in artificial intelligence (AI) through mentorship, community building, and advocacy. BAI offers memberships at no cost internationally to AI practitioners and collaborators. The organization provides educational and career programs, collaboration spaces, workshops, "hackathons", and advocates for equitable AI development and policy.

Examples of recent work include:

  • Mentorship Programs
    • Creates mentorship programs to support and connect Black graduate students, academics, and startups.
  • Partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)
    • Forms relationships with HBCUs to extend its academic programs and build a pipeline of Black AI talent.
