Established in 2016, Dxtera Institute is a non-profit, member-based consortium focused on providing open-source infrastructure and integration solutions that enable educational institutions to have functional control over their data. By simplifying systems integration and enhancing data aggregation, control, and management, Dxtera supports educational institutions in making informed decisions—with the goal of improving student outcomes and fostering equitable access to education

Dxtera reports (end of 2024) over 150 active members and collaborators, with solutions impacting more than 1 million students across the U.S. and Europe. Members include:
Members collaborate to address common challenges in data integration and to improve student outcomes. For example, Georgia State University and Ad Astra have joined the organization’s membership to develop shared consortium-sourced solutions aimed at facilitating student success.
Membership fees are determined based on the level of need and desired engagement within the consortium. Dues are paid annually and cover the costs of technical assistance, technology development, and education and training for members. Members have access to:
Dxtera was initially supported by USA Funds, now known as the Strada Education Foundation, which played a key role in its establishment. Dxtera has evolved into a self-sustaining organization, continuing to receive support from various foundations and collaborators to develop and deploy innovative solutions in education.
