Internet Archive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a mission to provide "Universal Access to All Knowledge." It focuses on building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form.  The organization was founded in 1996 by archiving the Internet itself, a medium just beginning to grow in use. Today it provides access to decades of web history accessible through the Wayback Machine.

Key features:

  • Provides digital versions of published works, to include web pages, books and texts, audio recordings, videos (including television news programs), images, music, and software programs.
  • Works with more than 1400 libraries and other partners through its Archive-It program to identify important web pages.
  • Works with partners globally to save copies of their work into special collections.
  • One of top 300 web sites in the world.
  • Funded through donations, grants, and by providing web archiving and book digitization services for its partners.
  • Congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents. Public access to the government documents collection is guaranteed by public law (Title 44 United States Code).
  • Anyone with a free account can upload media to the Internet Archive.

For the learn-and-work ecosystem, the Internet Archive offers a way to trace the evolution of educational resources, workforce initiatives, and institutional websites—supporting research, transparency, and historical context.
