Founded in 1927, the Markle Foundation is a nonprofit organization that seeks to address problems in economic security, health, and national security for Americans. Their work includes initiatives, partnerships, project-based grants, and policy development. The Foundation has evolved over the past century to a present-day focus on working to realize the potential of information technology to address previously intractable public problems, for the health and security of all Americans.

Examples of work include:

  • AI for Disasters + Emergencies (AIDE)
    • Initiative that explores how artificial intelligence can be used to improve disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. This work aims to help emergency managers and communities use AI tools to better prepare for and respond to natural disasters, protect lives and property, and speed recovery efforts.
  • Skills-First Talent and Workforce Development (via Rework America Alliance transition)
    • Although Markle’s prior work to develop the Rework America Alliance has transitioned leadership to Jobs for the Future, the foundation continues to support the skills-first talent movement—an approach aimed at helping workers without four-year degrees access quality jobs. Markle helped build resources like career coaching, employer guides, and workforce networks to drive skills-based hiring and labor market change.
  • Technology Policy and Good Jobs Research (ongoing focus)
    • Continues to emphasize technology policy research aimed at shaping how emerging technologies (like AI and automation) can broaden economic participation and support good jobs—connecting tech policy with inclusive economic outcomes.
