Overview

The Community College Baccalaureate Association (CCBA) inventories community college baccalaureate degree programs in the USA. Currently, 24 states allow their community colleges by legislative action to offer some baccalaureate degrees: California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and West Virginia.

In January 2024, the CCBA presented results of the second national inventory of CCB-degree programs (updating data from November 2021) which includes a national count of community college bachelor’s degree programs by state, institution, and program of study using 2- and 6-digit Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) codes from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS).

This database includes public community colleges identified by the Basic Carnegie Classification of baccalaureate/associates dominant or mixed baccalaureate/associates. It also presents CCB-degree programs not yet evident in IPEDS but confirmed through state agency and institutional websites and interviews.

Background

CCBA has provided leadership since 1999 in promoting affordable access to community college baccalaureate degrees as a means of closing the nation’s racial, ethnic, and economic gaps. The CCBA’s services include research, publications, best practices, state legislation, conferences, and consultants that guide and advise higher education institutions advocating for, developing, and/or implementing their baccalaureate programs.
