The National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS), located at the University of North Georgia, is the only national organization solely focused on transfer student success. NISTS works to empower practitioners, faculty, and administrators to be transfer champions – agents, connectors, and advocates – who challenge the status quo to create holistic and inclusive transfer student experiences.

NISTS operates a Knowledge Center that includes a curated collection of recent guides and resources by NISTS and others to support transfer-focused efforts as well as broader topics that can influence transfer student success.

NISTS partners in its work with:

  • National Academic Advising Association- The Global Community for Academic Advising. An association of professional advisors, counselors, faculty, administrators, and students working to enhance the educational development of students and support quality academic advising in institutions of higher education to enhance the educational development of students
  • National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition. Serves education professionals by supporting and advancing efforts to improve student learning and transitions into and through higher education.
  • Association for Orientation, Transition, and Retention in Higher Education. Provides education, leadership, and professional development in the fields of college student orientation, transition and retention. NODA is an international association comprised of professional administrators, students, faculty and related organizations.
  • John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education. Focuses on development of assessment-based action plans with measurable outcomes; and fostering institutional change by enhancing accountability, coordination, and the delivery of efforts associated with student learning, success, and retention during the undergraduate experience.
