The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that focuses on the use of technology in education. Its main goal is to help educators and learners harness the power of technology to enhance learning experiences. ISTE offers various programs and initiatives to achieve this objective. In 2023 ISTE merged with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), an educator-focused professional organization. In 2019, ISTE acquired EdSurge, an education news site, making it also non-profit.

The ISTE Learning Library includes various resources that provide ideas, strategies, and research on instructional technology. Searches can be filtered by audience, topic, course format, and media type. The resources available in the library include books, blog posts, journals, podcasts, topic guides, and webinars. Some content is restricted to members only, however.

The ISTE Standards program provides a framework for integrating technology into education. These standards outline the skills and knowledge that learners, teachers, and administrators should possess to thrive in a digital world. ISTE provides these guidelines with the goal of assisting educators to create engaging lessons that foster critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.

ISTE oversees numerous educational initiatives in:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Computational Thinking
  • Digital Citizenship
  • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) in Education
  • Global Collaborations
  • Teacher Preparation
  • Edtech Selection

ISTE also operates professional development programs to support educators in becoming proficient in using technology for teaching and learning. These programs include workshops, webinars, and conferences where educators can learn about the latest educational technology tools and strategies. Through these initiatives, ISTE aims to empower teachers with the skills needed to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of educational technology.

ISTE provides professional development resources, including:

  • Online courses through ISTE U.
  • ISTE Certification for Educators.
  • Professional development for organizations and teams.
  • Career development for individuals.
