Overview

The Wellspring Initiative from 1EdTech Foundation (Phase 1 in 2020, Phase 2 in 2021) is a multiyear program that seeks to create an open, scalable foundation for a lifelong learning ecosystem based on verifiable digital credentials that capture learning achievements and skills to empower individuals to find jobs; and help to transform the education system from one valuing seat-time to a focus on outcomes, competencies and skills.

Wellspring envisions an environment in which educators and employers collaborate on education curricula focused on skills, learners control their skills-based achievements through secure and verifiable digital credentials, and employers find highly qualified talent based on their verifiable credentials.

The Wellspring approach begins by connecting educators and employers in order to agree on the skills needed. Then they issue verifiable credentials for learning and workplace achievements so that everyone can own and share their hard work, and finally, level the playing field with low-bias data-based recruiting and hiring. 1EdTech open standards for learning and employment records capture verifiable achievements and skills to empower individuals to find jobs while helping to transform the education system as it moves from valuing seat-time to competencies and skills.

Wellspring Phase II Projects include:

  • Collaborating on Competency Frameworks
  • Research Employer Readiness
  • Build Demonstration Software
