An online service where employers advertise job openings and job seekers search for and apply to employment opportunities. Job boards may cover many industries and occupations or specialize by industry, occupation, geography, career level, or type of work.

Traditionally, job boards have operated primarily as an inbound recruiting channel: employers post openings and wait for interested job seekers to apply. Artificial intelligence (AI) and automation are changing this model. Job seekers can use AI to identify openings, tailor resumes and application materials, and apply for positions more quickly. Automated application tools can further increase the number of applications employers receive. At the same time, employers are increasingly using AI-enabled tools to search for candidates, assess potential matches, communicate with prospective applicants, and support other parts of the recruiting process.

As these technologies evolve, the distinction between traditional job boards and broader recruiting and hiring platforms is becoming less clear. Job boards remain an important way to advertise employment opportunities, but employers may combine them with candidate sourcing, employee referrals, employer career sites, professional or industry networks, talent marketplaces, and other recruiting approaches.

A related term is a career site, an employer-managed website or webpage that provides information about job openings as well as information about the organization, such as its workplace, benefits, policies, career opportunities, and application process.
