Founded in 2012, Coursera Inc. is a massive open online course (MOOC) provider. Coursera works with higher education institutions, companies, and other organizations to offer online courses, industry certifications, and degree programs in a variety of subjects.

MOOCs are online courses that are aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the Internet. MOOCS often include filmed traditional-style course lectures, readings, and problem sets; interactive courses with user forums and social media discussions to support engagement among learners and instructors; and immediate feedback to quizzes and assignments.

More than 7,000  courses, hands-on projects, and job-ready certificate programs are currently available to users of the company’s products.

In August 2023, Coursera entered into an agreement with the University of Texas System to launch a large-scale, industry-recognized microcredential program. Through this partnership, every student, faculty, and staff (and alumni) across all nine universities in the UT System can gain access to Coursera’s Career Academy for no additional cost to them. Through this partnership, more than 35 industry microcredentials from companies such as IBM, Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Salesforce will become available to eligible participants.
