The Oasis Institute is a nonprofit organization that helps older adults live active, healthy, and engaged lives through learning, wellness programs, and community involvement. Founded in 1982 in St. Louis, Missouri, Oasis began with a mission to offer meaningful activities beyond traditional senior programs. Oasis operates in over 250 communities across the United States, partnering with more than 700 organizations. Since 2000, the organization has served over 587,000 older adults through its programs.

Examples of programs include:

  • Lifelong Learning
    • Provides a wide range of classes for adults, including topics like history, literature, technology, and wellness. These classes are available both in-person and online through a platform called Oasis Everywhere.
  • Health & Wellness
    • Programs focused on physical health, such as exercise classes, falls prevention, and chronic disease management. These programs aim to help older adults maintain their health and independence.
  • Volunteer Opportunities
    • Encourages adults to give back to their communities by volunteering, such as Intergenerational Tutoring program, where older adults mentor young students to improve literacy skills.
