The Alabama Community College System (ACCS) is a statewide system founded in 1963 providing accessible and affordable education and job training opportunities. The system consists of 24 community and technical colleges, including the Alabama Technology Network, and Marion Military Institute.  The Alabama Technology Network is a part of the ACCS and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership. ACCS is governed by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees.

The ACCS focuses on two- to four-year transfer, dual enrollment programs, technical training, adult education, and community education.

Key programs and initiatives include:

  • Skills for Success: Offered through the ACCS Innovation Center, these are non-credit courses designed to provide industry-recognized credentials quickly, often at no cost, for immediate entry into the workforce.
  • Ready to Work (RTW): Provides free, basic, entry-level skills training through self-paced online modules, preparing adults for success in Alabama businesses and industries.
  • Alabama Career Roadmap: Ensures every high school senior earns at least one postsecondary credit or workforce credential by 2029, to better equip them for future success.
  • Alabama Technology Network (ATN): Provides training, technical assistance, and engineering services in areas like continuous improvement, industrial maintenance, and leadership development directly to existing businesses and industries.
  • Apprenticeships and Work-Based Learning: Facilitates registered apprenticeships and work-based learning models, such as the Alabama Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (ALFAME) program, which pairs students with industry hosts to gain experience while earning a degree.
