2U, Inc. is an educational technology company that contracts with nonprofit colleges and universities to build, deliver, and support online degree and nondegree programs. The company offers online education and services that span free courses to degree programs. 2U supports efforts to help partners thrive in the digital age by serving as an online program manager (OPM) and supplying partners with a cloud-based platform and other types of support.

2U is the parent company of edX, a leading global online learning platform. Through this platform, millions of learners receive access to education in partnership with hundreds of colleges, universities, and corporations. Examples:

  • In Oct. 2022, 2U and edX, announced the launch of boot camps. Under the edX brand, 2U has helped universities upskill thousands of boot camp students annually in high-demand technology fields including web development, data analytics, UX/UI, cybersecurity, fintech, digital marketing, and project management.
  • Through the Career Engagement Network, boot camp students have access to industry-led career support, including one-on-one coaching, resume templates and reviews, interview preparation toolkits, and virtual career events with companies across 2U’s employer network.
  • Access Partnerships connect boot camp programs with local workforce agencies and corporate, nonprofit, and government funders to help cities grow and diversify their tech workforces.
  • In December 2024, 2U announced a new chapter in tech training: moving away from boot camps to innovative technical microcredentials. The initial professional certificates offered are being developed in partnership with with Columbia Engineering and include Python Fundamentals, Machine Learning, and AI Applied Fundamentals.

While the company works through restructuring after coming through bankruptcy in 2024, all its programs are proceeding with no impact or disruption to learners as a result of this process, and 2U will continue providing all services for partners and students, as well as expanding into new areas.
