SHRM Foundation

Founded in 2012, DataKind is a technology and data science company that partners with organizations to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and data science to better illuminate or increase the impact of their work. The company develops data-driven tools that organizations, particularly nonprofits, can use for social impact.

The company was born from the Data for Good movement in 2010.

DataKind focuses its efforts on working with agencies and organizations centered on frontline health, humanitarian action, the climate, and/or economic opportunity. Its work includes three primary functions:

  • Ecosystem Leadership
    • Conducting research to identify how to best make a meaningful impact
  • Capacity Building
    • Empowering organizations to use data science and AI to gain better insight into their work
  • Technical Partnerships
    • Designing tech-based tools and products alongside social impact organizations

Edvise is DataKind's marquee product related to the learn-and-work ecosystem. It is a holistic student support tool that helps institutions identify college students who may be in need of additional support and understand which support systems have the greatest impact on keeping students enrolled. The goal is to increase graduation and retention rates at individual colleges and universities.
