Overview

Launched in 2017, My eQuals is a digital credentials platform governed and operated by participating Australian and New Zealand education providers. It provides learners with secure access to official academic credentials and allows those credentials to be electronically shared and verified by employers, education institutions, government agencies, credential evaluators, and other authorized recipients.

Education providers issue and certify credentials directly through My eQuals. Records are cryptographically signed, legally valid, and designed to be tamper-evident, allowing recipients to determine whether a credential has been issued by the identified education provider and remains unchanged.

My eQuals is used by universities, vocational education and training providers, polytechnics, institutes of technical and further education, private training organizations, professional associations, government agencies, and other education providers.

As of 2026, My eQuals reports:

  • more than 100 participating providers across Australia and New Zealand
  • participation by all public universities in both countries
  • more than 3 million learner accounts
  • more than 10 million academic records issued
  • more than 8.5 million learner records shared.

Learners can use the platform to retain and share official credentials for purposes including employment, further education, professional recognition, and migration.

Employers and other verifiers can receive secure links or cryptographically signed documents rather than relying on paper copies or contacting an institution manually to verify a credential.

Background

My eQuals was conceived in 2015 as a collaborative initiative of the Australian and New Zealand higher education sectors in response to the Groningen Declaration, an international initiative supporting portability, integrity, and digital exchange of student data and credentials.

The platform launched in 2017, with participating institutions joining progressively. The original initiative involved universities across Australia and New Zealand developing shared digital infrastructure for issuing and authenticating official academic documents.

The network has expanded beyond universities to include vocational education and training providers, private tertiary providers, professional organizations, government agencies, and other credential issuers.

My eQuals increasingly supports both conventional academic transcripts and qualification documents as well as a broader range of verified credentials, including certificates, statements of attainment, completion records, and digital badges.

Partners

  • My eQuals is governed and operated by participating Australian and New Zealand education providers rather than by a national government agency.
  • The original university initiative was endorsed by Universities Australia and Universities New Zealand.
  • Higher Ed Services has served as the managing organization for the network.
  • The technology platform is currently powered by Parchment, an Instructure company.

Funding

My eQuals was originally developed as a jointly funded initiative of participating Australian and New Zealand universities. The platform continues to operate as shared-sector infrastructure governed by participating education providers.
