Founded in 2004, the Omidyar Network is a hybrid organization consisting of a nonprofit and for-profit LLC. The organization focuses on responsible technology and reimagining capitalism to create inclusive and equitable societies. Its dual approach allows it to offer both grants and impact investments to for-profit companies that align with its vision.

Examples of work include:

• Invested in education and learning innovations:
  • Supported education-focused organizations and technologies (e.g., Khan Academy, Code.org, Andela) to expand access to high-quality learning and career skills.
• Responsible technology investments
  • Participated in funding Anthropic, a generative AI company with principles around transparency and accountability, to help govern AI development in line with democratic values.
• Global collaborative funds
  • Participates in initiatives like the AI Collaborative and Co-Develop Fund that work with partners globally to support inclusive technology governance and digital public infrastructure.
• Media and public accountability
  • Has funded investigative journalism and media projects in the past (e.g., International Consortium of Investigative Journalists), strengthening independent reporting and public awareness of critical issues.
