Founded in 1980, the Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) is a private nonprofit public service organization whose primary function is to prepare foreign education credential evaluation reports. A credential evaluation compares academic and professional degrees earned in one country to the educational standards of the United States or Canada. These reports are used by various entities, including:

  • Colleges and universities for international student admissions
  • Employers for hiring and proper job placement
  • Professional Licensing Boards for licensure requirements in fields like healthcare or law
  • Government agencies including U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) for immigration purposes

ECE is a charter member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), focused on ensuring educational qualifications are fairly and accurately recognized across borders, rather than generating profits for owners or shareholders.

ECE also operates a charitable initiative called ECE AidTM, which provides free evaluation reports to refugees and other forcibly displaced individuals who are working to rebuild their lives.

ECE  shares its knowledge with the broader international education community, providing training and support to other institutions and businesses that perform their own evaluations.
