Founded in 1990, Global Credential Evaluators, Inc. (GCE) is a nongovernmental credential evaluation service that evaluates international academic documents to determine equivalency to U.S. credentials and qualifications. Prospective students or employees can check to see if their institution or employer accepts GCE's evaluations, and if so, they may have their international experience applied to a U.S. program or organization. It gives international students and workers a chance to enter the U.S. higher education system or job market without needing to restart their education from square one. It also gives international college students a chance to transfer some credits to a U.S. college or university.

Core GCE functions:

  • Evaluates foreign academic credentials (degrees, transcripts, diplomas) and covers upper secondary to post-university-level education. Services cover all foreign educational programs and include vocational schools.
  • Translates them into U.S. equivalencies (e.g., “This degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree”)
  • Provides reports used by:
    • Colleges and universities (for admissions)
    • Employers (for hiring decisions)
    • Licensing bodies (for professional certification)

GCE's reports are based on the educational system at the time of the applicant’s enrollment. GCE's process requires four steps from interested applicants:

  1. Verify the admitting institution or entity accepts GCE’s reports
  2. Review GCE’s services and guidelines
  3. Gather the originating country’s required documents
  4. Create an account and submit an application

It takes GCE 25-30 business days, typically, to complete the evaluation of someone's academic documents.

GCE does not evaluate work experience.
