A person, organization, technology, resource, strategy, or partnership that increases the effectiveness, capacity, reach, or impact of existing efforts, enabling individuals or organizations to accomplish more than they could independently or with the same resources.

Originally a term from military strategy, force multiplier has been adopted across business, education, workforce development, philanthropy, and the social sector to describe factors that amplify organizational performance or collective impact. The concept emphasizes leverage—achieving greater results by strengthening or connecting existing resources rather than simply adding more resources. However, describing something as a force multiplier does not automatically establish that it produces greater impact. Its effectiveness depends on implementation, coordination, context, and evidence of improved outcomes.
